Records at ECCE centres can also be used to:
• build a picture of each individual child
• monitor individual’s progress in all areas of development and be used to plan
for the children’s future progress
• highlight the difference between what we expect the children to learn and
what they actually learn
• communicate with family, caretakers and other ECCE professionals
• help evaluate provisions and planning
• provide for continuity from the centre to the next class or formal school
• demonstrate accountability since records can be used to explain and justify
the work done
• avoid incidence of fraud, overspending and financial waste by keeping record
of financial transactions, and
• constitute points of reference of fostering good relationship between school
and parents especially through records such as visitor's book and parent-
teachers' association record.
